On August 20, from 6-8 p.m., former Alameda County Co-Youth Poet Laureate Nitika Sathiya hosted an open mic at Tamper Room, inviting artists of all kinds to perform. This was the last of the open mics that Nitika has been hosting at Tamper Room since her junior year of high school, and she ended the night with a showcase of “Martyr of Words,” a short film she had made with her friend, Gillian Kaplan.
With over 20 performers and attendees, an enthusiastic audience, and a perfect venue, the open mic was a perfect event for Bay Area artists. “I’m glad that my open mics can give people the space to just be who they are, and be a part of their art,” Sathiya says.
