One of the largest fundraisers held by the MSJ Boosters Club, the MSJ Crab Feed will be held on March 5, 2011 at Newark Pavilion from 6pm to 10pm to benefit MSJ athletics and performing arts. Having previously held successful Crab Feeds, the MSJ Boosters Club is expecting a great turnout this year.

Every year, over 450 people buy $45 tickets for the event at Newark Pavilion to enjoy all-you-can-eat crab, pasta, bread, salad, coffee, tea, and dessert. However, most of the revenue comes from the silent auction and raffles. Sports bring in a variety of gift baskets for the silent auction and receive all proceeds made from their submissions.

Planning for the event begins months ahead, Committees are organized to manage publicity, ticket sales, volunteers, and food orders. The event was first headed by Band Teacher Monica Kraft and Drama Teacher Anne Riley. This year, it is being organized by MSJ parents Linda Curtis and Anna Jacoby.

In addition to benefitting MSJ departments, the event also offers opportunities for students at MSJ to earn service hours. By serving on the set-up, decorations, or recycling crews, volunteers can earn up to 5 hours of service learning. Seniors may serve as waiters and waitresses for service learning hours as well.

Ticket order forms can be found on Attendance Clerk Jean Faust’s desk and turned into the MSJ Boosters Club box in the office. The order form includes a checklist of the programs you would like for your donation to benefit. Every year, hundreds of parents, students, teachers, and MSJ Booster Club supporters attend this MSJ traditional event. For more information, e-mail msjcrabfeedtickets@yahoo.com.
