Singer-songwriter Marteen Holding Lunch Concert at MSJ

By Staff Writer Joelle Chuang

16-year-old Bay Area pop musician Marteen Estevez will be visiting MSJ for a lunchtime concert at the amphitheater on Tuesday, September 26. After the concert, Marteen will hold a meet-and-greet and Q&A session and visit the sixth period AP Music Theory class for a discussion about music production.

The charismatic singer-songwriter and instrumentalist has shared a stage with artists like Fifth Harmony, Lil Uzi Vert, and his cousin Kehlani. As reported by Just Jared, Marteen said, “My music is a modern take on nineties R&B with a little Bay Area edge. Coming from Northern CA, you have a certain mentality. It’s an indescribable attitude.”

Marteen began playing piano and singing at the age of 10 and started posting music covers on his Instagram account in middle school. He released his first independent single, “I Wanna,” in 2014. This song attracted the attention of producer J.R. Rotem, who has worked with countless artists, including Rihanna, Jason Derulo, and Britney Spears. With the help of J.R. Rotem, Marteen released the song “Sriracha” in July 2017, his biggest success to date. A month later, the Warner Bros. Records label signed Marteen.
