The Performing Arts department hosted its annual Performing Arts Gala on Friday, May 17 at the Milpitas Embassy Suites. Themed “Around the World in 25 Years,” the Gala featured a banquet hall of food, a silent auction, and raffle baskets. Several groups performed at the event including Chamber Chorale, Show Choir, Color Guard, Band, and Orchestra.

The Gala is the Performing Arts department’s largest fundraiser of the year, requiring months of meticulous planning by the Gala committee. Student volunteers hand-painted decorations and put together the themed raffle baskets. Proceeds from the Gala go towards the Performing Arts department and are used for instruments, uniforms, scholarship opportunities for students, and more.

The theme of this year’s Gala celebrated the event’s 25th anniversary and how much the department has grown, highlighting the numerous international trips Band has made in the past few decades. Executive Committee Leader Senior Jessica Chung said, “Over the last 25 years, Band has grown significantly. With more funds, the event has been able to evolve into a more formal dinner. It used to be hosted at school in the amphitheater but has since been moved to hotels for a nicer guest experience.”

Despite the committee’s efforts, ticket sales have been less than satisfactory over the past few years. Chief Operations Officer Junior Prathusha Jayaprakash said, “The future of the Gala is uncertain, but we still hope to raise money for the Performing Arts Department.”
