Response to “Fremont community comes together for the memorial of Dylan Reagan”

By MSJHS Senior Alexander Inguanzo

To the Editors,

Reading Dylan Reagan’s article titled “Fremont Community Comes Together for the Memorial of Dylan Reagan” in the Smoke Signal made me happy. Being someone who got to experience Dylan’s impact personally as a good friend of his, it’s amazing to see the school commemorate someone who left such a massive legacy behind as well as bring awareness to Dylan.

I do think that this article can be improved. Being the only article mentioning Dylan, I feel like the article should focus more on who Dylan was, or at the very minimum how he impacted the school instead of focusing so much on a list of things the school or student body did for Dylan. Many already know what the community has done, but so many have yet to know what Dylan was like.

Focusing on Dylan’s friends and teachers essentially takes away from the ability of the article to convey the impact Dylan had on those people. I suggest that we add quotes that focus more on Dylan as well as his influence on those around him, as these quotes would convey the message of Dylan a lot better by allowing people to understand why so many people came to support Dylan, instead of simply listing a series of events.

Dylan was a person like no other. I truly appreciate the efforts made by the editors at the Smoke Signal to publish this article. We rarely come across a person such as Dylan, someone who everyone should have gotten the chance to know.
