1918 Spanish Flu vs. COVID-19: Sports Then and Now

Through COVID-19’s unprecedented circumstances, looking back at  history can help us learn from our past mistakes. The 1918 Spanish Flu,  lasting from Spring 1918 to 1920, was a similar pandemic which infected 500 million people across the world. Just as COVID-19 has affected sports today, the 1918 Spanish Flu also halted sports activities. From mask wearing to social distancing, many historical policies draw parallels to today. Follow the Smoke Signal’s dive into COVID-19’s effect on sports, and compare it to last century’s pandemic.
