MSJ Breaks Ground on New Pool

By Graphics Editor Victor Zhou

FUSD held the official groundbreaking ceremony for MSJ’s new swimming pool at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. February 6, by the mini gym. After a warm welcome from Principal Zack Larsen, Water Polo athletes Seniors Nathan Lau and Jill Mukai gave short speeches thanking the district for the improved facility. Director of Facilities and Construction John Chwastyk and District Superintendent Kim Wallace led the groundbreaking itself, complete with construction uniforms and silver shovels. The new developments have been finalized through the Long Range Facilities Plan, an assessment identifying areas of improvement needed throughout the district, and are funded through the Sale of Site Fund, with an estimated cost of $8.1 million. Construction is slated to finish in August 2018.
