The Wizarding World’s Invitation to Muggles

By Mary Lan

Even though I knew (of course) that Hogwarts was just something out of a book, I confess that I was disappointed when I didn’t get a letter in the mail.

Hogwarts has been out of reach for Muggles, our only window into the wizarding world through the eagerly anticipated series of Harry Potter books, and then, the cinematic wonders that teased our imagination. But now that the two-part movie finale is closing the Harry Potter fantasy, what do Muggle fans have to look forward to? Well, the life-sized Harry Potter theme park, of course—located at the Universal Island’s of Adventure in Orlando, Florida (grand opening this summer).

J.K. Rowling’s vision of the wizarding world has come to life with three roller coaster rides, a charming Hogsmeade village under a model of Hogwarts castle, and some 600 pieces of magical merchandise. So go on, then. What are you waiting for? Join as one of the millions of fans to be chosen by a wand from Ollivander’s, sip a foaming Butterbeer from the Three Broomsticks, or brave the Forbidden Journey with Harry, Hermione, and Ron (watch out for the Whomping Willow and fire-breathing dragon!).

*Trip may be exponentially more pleasant if taken in the winter, when you might enjoy the lovely snow-capped rooftops to a steady temperature of 60-70 degrees, as opposed to sweltering summer heat.
