We're all excited for this coming Christmas, but for the more than 35,000 people living without homes in the Bay Area, Christmas is one of the hardest times of the year. We may complain about the cold and the rain, but imagine all the people without the thick shirts and warm, fuzzy jackets we enjoy. That's why this year, Peer Resource and Leadership 2 are working together to make it a joyful and bright Christmas for the people on the streets of the Bay Area. In this combined effort between the two organizations show school unity which is especially important during this holiday season, a time to put aside our differences and work together for the good of others. Peer Resource is working with The One Warm Coat Foundation, an organization whose goal is to provide one warm coat to any person who requires one, free of charge. They believe that “providing this simple yet vital need helps people live productive lives year round.” The last time Peer Resource did this drive was back in the 2007-2008 school year. They're hoping that students are willing to open their hears and pull out one of the coats that they don't wear anymore and give it to this cause. "These jackets and coats really become their homes in the winter and rain, so we need them to be thick and durable" says Senior Golzar Yousefi, a member of both Peer Resource and Leadership 2. Both organizations are working together in a general clothing drive that goes to the Salvation Army and the Sacred Heart Community Service. The Salvation Army, a non-profit international movement found in 1865, works with multiple charities and religious organizations to bring help to the poor, destitute, and hungry by meeting both their physical and spiritual needs. It helps everyone in need, regardless of age, gender, or race. Sacred Heart Community Service, a non-denominational, non-profit organization that provides a wide variety of useful services, free of charge, to anyone in need regardless of race or religion. So head over to your overstuffed closet and pull out those clothes you never wear anymore and donate them to these organizations. You're sure to make someone's Christmas much warmer and brighter with your donations. |
