Step Up Sophomores Review

Phineas: Hey Ferb, I know what we are going to do today! We are going to write a review on the Step Up Sophomore homecoming performance.

Phineas: As I escaped from the subway, I saw a sea of yellow blanketing my eyes. However, as the performance started, I was slightly disappointed by the uniformity of the decorations. All I could see were mounds of caution tape.

Phineas: The backdrop provided an aesthetically pleasing introduction to the sophomore skit.

Phineas: Right off the bat, the main performers didn’t fully captivate the audience at times. The voiceovers didn’t sync with certain characters only the freshmen voice was really distinctive.

Phineas: I couldn’t agree more myself. Nevertheless, the booming spirit of the sophomore class “stepped up” their performance. It provided the boost to keep the spirit strong throughout their skit.

Phineas: One thing I couldn’t find were the seniors. Where were they?

Phineas: It seemed like the juniors were getting all the love. It was not until much later in the skit did the senior class get to cheer.

Phineas: On another note, the airbands were excellent. All the dancers were engaged and passionate about the performance though the first several airbands’ performances felt stretched out. Ferb, what did you think about them?

Ferb: They were quite dapper, indeed.

Phineas: I especially liked the ballroom dance. They started out a little slow, but immediately picked up from there. Their risky moves paid off big-time and were executed in a flawless manner, earning cheers from every class. From there, nearly everything “hip-hopped” to another level.

Phineas: Overall, the skit was easy to follow and they effectively promoted school unity. The main characters embodied the roles in the Step Up: The Streets movie, complete with a rivalry between two groups. The final hip-hop dance-off between the Kennedy Titans and MSJ proved to be entertaining and ended the performance on a positive note.

Phineas: What do you think about the interesting “Asian mom” character?

Ferb: I found it quite polarizing.

Phineas: It was a great introduction to the air-band that followed and provided a certain sense of shock humor.

Phineas: When the performance ended, I had hoped for more originality from the sophomores. But overall, the sophomore skit…

Ferb: …was quite moving. Hah, get it? The juniors must “step up” to the plate to follow this agreeable performance.
