Indiana Juniors Review

Edward the Vampire: As I was lying in the grass, glistening in the sun as I so often do, I was awoken by the deafening roar of cheers to the beginning of the first act of junior’s homecoming skit.

Bella the Beautiful: Did you recognize it? They were singing the a capella version of the Indiana Jones theme song. It was a really original way to start their performances.

EV: The decorations were also amazing, especially the suspended “2013”, but the shadow from the hanging figures really put a damper on my sparkle.

BB: Those were great, but the backdrop and posters on the amphitheatre didn’t meet my expectations. The backdrop was a bit too simple for my taste, and the posters seemed to be sloppily done. It definitely created more work for the stage crew, who also got cheered along with the airbands. The ivy was a nice touch though.

EV: Nice as it was, it, like the posters, it wasn’t secured very well and seemed to interfere with the performances.

BB: The skit was easy to follow, especially with just four main characters. I also liked how the respective themes of each grade were incorporated into each individual’s role.

EV: The actors and the voiceovers were also in sync, and they worked around the cheering rather than pushing forward.

BB: True, but I wish they had explained the sudden appearance of Mission Man better.

EV: I didn’t get it either, but I just read their minds.

BB: But for the rest of us mere mortals, we felt like we were left in the dark.

EV: Speaking of dark, did you get a look at those airband costumes? They all looked the same, black shirts and more black shirts, and some with writing that wasn’t easily read by the audience. And so were the airbands—they all seemed to be hip-hop and nothing else; some variety would have helped.

BB: Same here, but their passion and class spirit made up for it, especially the last airband. Everyone in it was incredibly enthusiastic and in sync with the music, making it really stand out from the airbands.

EV: However, one of the airbands didn’t really show true spirit when they left the stage after a technical difficulty.

BB: They made it really obvious by angrily gesturing at the DJ station, and even more obviously so when they came on to finish their dance later on.

EV: I commend them for coming on to finish their dance, but by doing so, they took away from the effect of the airband after them.

BB: There weren’t smooth transitions between the airbands and the skit though. It made me feel like I was watching a TV show and the airbands were randomly inserted commercials.

EV: Despite all of that, the junior class was incredibly unified. They cheered appropriately and the vast majority of them stood up to show their support for their classmates on stage.

BB: In general, the juniors had a strong performance and we can’t wait to see what they’ll do next year.

EV: Good luck to the senior class of 2012 tomorrow!
