Sophomores in Neverland (Review)

Darth Vader: Gliding into the amphitheater, I was assaulted by yellow.

Chewbacca: The streamers over the N-Wing door were entangled in my hairy back, though I did admire their novelty.

DV: Indeed, their decorations were everywhere. I found it ingenious that streamers were covering all plant life in the N-Wing.

CB: The cardboard cutouts were quite lifelike, and I got scared.

DV: Hrm, they were impressive. I was appreciative of the fact that the sophomores took time to cover the benches and the grass with tarp, so I didn’t have to muddy my cape.

CB: Meanwhile, the golden stars lining the ground reminded me of traveling through space on the Millennium Falcon, arriving at Neverland, which became apparent with the realistic and magical backdrop.
DV: Once the performance opened, the sophomore songstress served as a pleasant warm-up for the energetic first airband.

CB: They creatively coordinated their dance moves with their songs. The girl who revealed a yellow bikini during the “California Gurls” portion was particularly memorable.

DV: Immediately following the airband, Captain Hook ambled onto the stage. While he had his humorous moments, he felt like a meaningless presence and certainly not that imposing of a villain.

CB: The skit in general seemed to drag on and was bogged down by superfluous or overdone scenes, like when Smee would constantly talk about his stupidity.

DV: Then the senior character, Wendy, didn’t enter until about fifteen minutes in, and in the end, only the sophomore accomplished the tasks, which discouraged class unity.

CB: Despite the incoherency of the skit, most of the props were exceptional. However, the crocodile costume was just sad.

DV: And the skit itself seemed to drag on for lightyears, partly because it was barely punctuated by airbands.

CB: The Bollywood dance, one airband that was incorporated into the skit, brought variety to the performance but lacked pizzazz.

DV: The other dance in the skit, the boys’ booty dance, was integrated into the story well and was very entertaining without being too obscene.

CB: The Lady Gaga medley was a good effort at class unity, but it probably would have been better with more microphones and fewer songs.

DV: Overall, the airbands seemed fairly typical and longer than necessary, though the final dance provided more energy.

CB: However, the sophomores’ spirit balanced out the negative aspects of today’s performance. Yellow was the predominant color roaming MSJ hallways today with overwhelming cheers during their show.

DV: If the sophomores learn to polish their Homecoming production, the force will be strong with this class.
